One Small Step News!

Hello again!

This week is going to be an exciting week instore. Thursday and Friday (26th & 27th May) we have a Brand Event going on throughout the store, offering huge discounts on summer stock. Whilst we are unfortunately not taking part in this particular promotion, nearly all of the other concessions on the 6th floor are so come and pay us a visit and check out some serious bargains. On these two days we will also be extending opening ho

urs from 8am until 10pm.

On top of this, on Saturday 28th May there will be a special event going on up here on the 6th floor. In keeping with the release of the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, the 6th floor will be holding its very own treasure hunt! There will be chocolatey gold coins hidden around the floor and clues to follow to find Pirate Steve's hidden treasure chest which will be full of REAL GOLD COINS! Once you have found the treasure chest, you need to take a coin out of it and take it to Pirate Steve who will give you a bag of your very own treasure! It is completely free to take part and there will be lots of pirates around to help you!

Here at One Small Step, we train our staff to the highest possible standard using the Brannocks measuring device. Even though it is old fashioned looking, to this day there has been no other device made which delivers better accuracy whilst measuring children's feet. Something we consider VERY important here.

We thought we would share some of our knowledge with our lovely blog and twitter followers and who knows, you might learn something!

When getting your children's feet measured it is very important that you ask yourself these three questions so that we can help you find the perfect shoe and the perfect fit...

1. How does the shoe fit?

2. How is the shoe made?

3. Is the type of shoe appropriate for your child's age?

We have something for every foot here; be it wide, narrow, shallow, tiny, big or have high insteps. It is important for us to know exactly what kind of shoe you are after so that we can give you the best shoe fitting service available. We all know that some children can be restless and can easily become agitated in certain environments which is why our staff are here to answer any questions and offer expert advice about all of our shoes and fitting.

We cannot stress enough how important it is to get your children's feet measured on a regular basis. (Every 4-6 weeks for children up to 3 years then every 6-8 weeks for children between 4-10 then every 8-12 weeks for children over 10.) Poorly fitting children's shoes can cause no end of problems. For example; ingrown toenails, hammer toes, calluses, bunions and not to mention a fear of getting their feet measured and fitted for shoes.

Lots of people think that by going up a shoe size your child will have plenty of growing room and will do no harm. This is FALSE. Here at One Small Step, we fit all of our shoes with adequate growing room. Shoes that are sizes too big can cause just as many problems with a child's foot than shoes which are sizes too small.

When should I get my child measured for their first shoes?

You can get your child measured at any age so you can keep track of their shoe size and foot development, although babies and crawlers don't require shoes. They only need booties, warm wide sock to keep their feet warm, or pre-walking shoes that do not bind their feet. The shoe should be flexible rather than providing a rigid support, and it's very important for the shoe to be shaped like the childs foot. Note that babies feet are not shaped like children who can walk - they are more triangular with a layer of fat on the top of the foot. The bones in a babies foot do not form until they begin to walk, whereby the cartilage hardens and turns to bone.

Peppa Pig

Hello lovely people!

This Saturday (7th May) we will be joined up on the 6th floor by a very special guest. Peppa Pig! That's right! At 1pm Peppa will be paying everyone a visit up here on the 6th floor and meeting all the children. She'll only be with us for an hour because she's a very busy pig but she will be here from 1-2pm. Get here early to avoid disappointment. This is just a turn up event, no ticket necessary. Just be here for 1pm and you'll see Peppa Pig!

New Girls Converse

This just in! Check out these two new girls' styles of converse. On the right is '2TongueOx,' which features 2 tongues (the clue is in the name really!) in a pastel lilac and mint green. They're priced at just £29.00 and available in sizes 11-2.

Next is 'CtasPrint' which is a metallic silver hi-top with pink laces. The soft material is slightly different to the one used on classic Coverse but its high shine and metallic finish will definitely get you noticed this summer. Priced at just £35.00 and available in sizes 11-2.

Holy Smokes Batman! Looks like we've got a villain on our hands! Check out these utterly amazing limited edition Joker Converse we've just got in stock. Slippers!

These aren't new stock but we figured it's still a bit too chilly for barefeet indoors - at least until summer comes anyway! So check out a few of our Start Rite slippers.

On the left is the 'Dorothy' slipper. Made to look like a princess shoe but with the added comfort of soft, cosy fabric, we currently have this in stock now 27-30 (9-11.5 in uk sizes) for just £16.00.

In the middle is 'Glimmer.' Again, designed to look like a princess shoe, made from soft fabric with a pastel pink crushed velvet outer and elasticated strap to make sure feet don't slip out! Again this is £16.00 and we have it in sizes 27-30.

Lastly on the right is 'DreamHeart' which features a velcro fastening (better suited for smaller feet) and pretty heart detailing across the front. This is in stock now for £16.00 in sizes 24-26 (7-8 uk) but starts at a 22 / 5uk so if we don't have it in your size, remember we can always get it sent from another store!

Mini Maxy

Our classic Mini Maxy shoe is now available in two more colours for SS11! As well as stocking them in Pale Pink, Black Patent, Fuchsia, Red & Navy they are also now available in White and Silver.

Max and May Canvas Shoes

They're back! Our fantastic canvas children's shoes are here again!

They start at size EU 19/ UK 2.5 and go up to size EU 33/ UK 1. They come in a wide range of colours, patterns and prints, are fully machine washable and have an extra insole for improved fit.

Girls Ecco's

New in this week are these summer shoes from Ecco. Starting from the top we have 'Hanne,' a lightweight summer trainer in a silver, with hints of dusky pink suede. Available in sizes 20-25 and instore now for £39.95

In the middle is 'Astrid,' again a lightweight summer trainer in a gorgeous violet colour. The hints of lime green give it a summery vibe. Made of soft leather and featuring leather lining, easy to do velcro straps and injection moulded soles (as are all Ecco shoes) these shoes are a must have for any little girl this summer. Available in sizes 20-25 at £39.95.

Lastly we have 'Lene' which is a bit more open around the foot area, but still a protective covering over the toes. Ideal for girls who love to run around but want their feet to stay cool this summer. Max & May Wandle

More sandals! This time they're by Max & May (which are exclusive to One Small Step - you won't find them anywhere else.) These 'Wandle' sandals feature a Birkenstock style, available in brown and navy are incredibly comfortable. Like Birkenstocks, these sandals are a wide fit (but can be adjusted for more slender feet with our trusty hole-punch.) With a moulded sole, you will barely notice you're even wearing them due to them being so comfortable. Their rubber grip sole means great for running around in the summer sun! Boys Sandals

Starting from the top, we have 'Hakki' by Ecco. This brown and tan sandal is made from supple leather and features soft leather lining and a light sole, making running around in the sunshine just that bit easier! Underneath we have 'GainFish' by Primigi in Navy and Red. Baby Converse are BACK.

Hello and Happy Friday! Lots of new stock in this week for little feet so let's get cracking!

First up is our range of Baby Converse. These soft shoes are ideal for feel too small to fit into big boys & girls converse, so we have the mini version, made from soft material but with slight grip underneath. Currently available in sizes 2, 3 & 4 in Pink, Navy & Red. £22.00.

New Ecco styles in store!

One Small Step have two more new styles of Ecco available in store. Firstly, Bahne in beige. With two adjustable straps with brown and cream detail. Available in sizes 20-26 at only £39.95!
